A document answering a list of FAQ's can be found here or in the downloads section of the project.

December 09th 2015

There is a new file available in the downloads section of the project. It contains scope and logic analyzer measurements done on the UPCX530 and might be useful to find errors.

August 08th 2015

There are some updates to the software, source code and manuals available.

While testing the machine and placing a lot of PCB's, the PP4 machine has worked as expected. Of course there is some room for improvements. But the machine does what it was expectede to do.

The updates are available in the downloads section of the project.

August 31st 2014

A STEP file of the whole machine is available in the downloads section of the project.

August 17th 2014

Some software updates and bugfixes in version 0.17 software and its documentation:

  • Some important bug fixes
  • New: Play sound on vision / vacuum fail
  • New: Alignment of cut tape feeders can be called from the context menu
  • New: Check vacuum before vision alignment can be enabled in configuration file
  • New: Manual PCB alignment can now insert fiducial data from PCB definition

If you want to update an installation, you should only replace the Dll's and executables. There are some new entries within the "MachineSettings.ini". Details can be found in the 'Bugs, Wanted, Untested features' document.

The files are available in the downloads section of the project.

August 3rd 2014

I wrote a short documentation on how to tune the UPCX530's PID loop using the "Step-Response" method.

The file is available in the downloads section of the project.

June 19th 2014

Some software updates and bugfixes in version 0.16 software and its documentation:

  • Some smaller bug fixes
  • Some improvements in useability
  • This version is much faster when saving project files or loading a PCB simulation

If you want to update an installation, you should only replace the Dll's and executables. There is a new entry within the "MachineSettings.ini". Details can be found in the 'Bugs, Wanted, Untested features' document.

The files are available in the downloads section of the project.

July 12th 2014

The new video can be found on the projects video website at the bottom of the list.

Beside some USB connection problems to the feeders that were triggerd by the airbrush compressor switching on and off, there are still some problems with small 0805 components that tend to move and rotate underneath the nozzle. I think the cause lies in a slightly convex shaped lower face of the nozzle and the vacuum hole being too small.
In the video I use a 0.8mm inner diameter tip for paste dispensing. That is why there are some solder bridges on the 0.65mm pitch part.

July 6th 2014

There will be a new video soon that shows a complete placement project.

Being a little nerved by a lot of e-mails please let me clarify:
I will not sell parts for the machine or complete machines. The reason for this is, besides not having enough time and a mandatory CE-compliance, the high labour cost to sell the machine commercially.

June 28th 2014

Some software updates and bugfixes in version 0.15 software and its documentation. These updates mainly focus on installing the data on a network drive. This enables the user to prepare the data on a different computer than the machine is connected to.

There are also minor bugfixes in the software including the manuals.

The files are available in the downloads section of the project. A more detailed description of the fixed errors can be found in the 'Bugs, Wanted, Untested features' document.

June 21st 2014

Some software updates and bugfixes:

  • Unknown Gerber entities no longer stop the file import.
  • Improved handling of the vibratory feeding time.
  • Optional configuration flag to let the machine wait for the vibratory feeder before vision alignment.
  • Fixed error resulting in parts being always rejected when no vacuum sensor was configured.
  • Small user interface changes.

The files have been updated and are available in the downloads section of the project. A more detailed description of the fixed errors can be found in the 'Bugs, Wanted, Untested features' document.

June 13th 2014

After spending a nice holiday I am back to work now. At first I have updated some stuff:

  • CAD files for the X-Axis Assembly: Added missing mounting hole in XTrackProfile part.
  • Installation and Calibration manual: Some bug fixes.

The files have been updated and are available in the downloads section of the project.

Both errors were reported by people who build the machine. I appreciate their help.

April 6th 2014

I have added a more detailed manual on how to set up the electronics and detailed information on how to adjust the BLDC motor PID values. It is available in the downloads section of the project and also released under the "GNU Free Documentation License" Version 1.3.

April 4th 2014

To clarify copyright information on the manuals available for the PP4 software I have put them under the "GNU Free Documentation License" Version 1.3. There are also some minor changes in the text. The new documentation is available in the downloads section of the project.

March 30th 2014

I have added a link page to the project. It contains links to suppliers of parts needed to build the machine. Here you can also find a link to David Armstrong (UK) who will sell kits and single components to build the machine in the near future. He will also support the parts he sells. He has already set up a webpage and a forum.

March 22nd 2014

The schematics and PCBs in Altium Designer format are now also available in the downloads section of the project. These files make only sense if you own the Altium Designer. The other schematics and extended-gerber files in the downloads section have the same content.

March 7th 2014

Today the machine has moved to its final destination:

FinalDestination320x240

March 6th 2014

Updated:

  • Small changes to the schematics for the main processor in the downloads section of the project: This only affects the cabling schematic. The archive now also includes a 3D PDF of the main controller.
  • New PP4 software version (0.13 Beta) available. The documentation and the list of known bugs and wanted features has also been updated. All available in the downloads section of the project.

New:

  • Delphi XE 4 source code for the 0.13 Beta version in the downloads section of the project.

All main parts of the project have now been published. The Altium-Designer files (schematics and PCB) will follow later.
